Make it consistent by making it better

20120910 (2012 September 10 Monday)

A little while ago I was in an argument with the head of quality assurance. He was saying that we needed to improve consistency, and therefore needed to change some process. I agreed that consistency was good, but did not agree about the process change. The change was to take one of the things we did very well, but only on some projects, and replace it with a broken process that was done on other projects.

So I came up with this rule, “Make it consistent by making it better.”

A wiggly performance graph, with arrows pulling up the lowest performers.

Pull up the bad to make things consistent.
